Why Food?

The vast majority of orphanages do not engage a professional nutritionist to determine appropriate diets or menus for children. They simply cannot afford it. Generally speaking, orphans’ nutrition reflects the health status of local populations. In developing countries, health status is rife with malnutrition, stunting (reduced physical and mental development) and associated diseases. The World Bank projects over 60 million children annually are acutely malnourished.

After consulting with orphanage owners the founders of GlobalRise took action.

Focusing on the African continent after a multi-disciplinary strategy meeting, GlobalRise implemented a new “Farm to Plate Protocol” …a nutrition assessment that informs expert farmers to plant the right crops that increase food diversity and security for orphans while delivering strong economic impact for local communities.
